Well then let me see if I can give you a kick start!

Here's a developer that has made a perl program (which of course 
makes it platform independant) to "rip" content out of Yahoo Groups, 
including messages.

Last update was August 18th,2003 so this author is making monthly 
progress. The program seems tiny which is nice. I've taken a quick 
look at the code, but couldn't run it as I dont have perl installed 
and also the description says it will save it in some sort of linux 
mail format. So I was wondering if maybe you could modify it or ask 
the author if he can get it to save it in some sort of offline 
browser friendly format (html?). Or perhaps even something search 
friendly once it's all downloaded.

Here is another developer, doing something also in perl, and also 
storing the results in some unix mail format. This author's last 
update was April 2003 though.
