Awareness during 'empty mind'

Message 03714 of 3835

Hi,

Since time is short before the end of this group, I need to ask for some help
before it's too late!
Yes, I'm yet another beginner struggling with the empty mind exercise of Step
1....

My problem is that I'm confused about exactly what I should be doing: on the
one hand, I think that 'empty mind' should be a kind of advanced form of the
mindfullness exercise, where in this case, I'm doing nothing; well, just
sitting. From this perspective it would seem that I should be fully awareof
myself sitting doing/thinking nothing - simply 'being'. But on the other hand I
wonder if this awareness actually counts as thinking, and if it istherefore
something I should be trying not to do?

It strikes me though that if I managed to have no awareness, I wouldn't
actually know what I was doing, or not doing, so some awareness must be
necessary....

I'd be very grateful for any advice.
