Dear Amberlyn, >> Is 40 repetitions of our affirmation requisite, even that Bardon seems to give us a choice of making a cord with 30-40 markers? Or does 40 relate to a mystical meaning, such as found with Mem? Or would a number within this range, and meaningful to the practitioner, work as well? Or, am I looking for meaning where there is none <g>? << The specific number 40 does carry with it an important degree of symbolism. 4 is the number of stable manifestation and 10 is the number of physicality. Furthermore, as you noted, 40 is the numerical value of the Hebrew Letter Mem. Mem is the Mother Letter of Water and on the Hebrew Tree, it connects Netzach (the lower, instinctual emotions) with Hod (the lower, rational intellect). In other words, it is the perfect symbolic number for use with auto-suggestive re-programming of the subconscious mind. BUT, none of this is crucial in terms of the effectiveness of your auto-suggestion practice! ;-) THE important thing is that you repeat your affirmation quite a few times, 40 times being a good number of times. It's also important that you do it without having to simultaneously keep conscious count of how many times you've repeated it -- hence the string of knots/beads. The factor of personal or universal significance that you attribute to the specific number of repetitions you choose, gives your auto-suggestion practice an extra added boost, but it is not a crucial ingredient. So if 36 repetitions is more significant to you than 40, then go for 36 and get the most out of this boost that you can. My best to you, :) Rawn Clark 18 Jan 2003 rawnclark@... rawn@... http://www.ABardonCompanion.com http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BardonPraxis
