Dear Peter, >> One aspect that I do not agree with would be the idea of mind-body dualism. To me, the mind and body are essentially one and the same. So the brain is a necessary consequence of us having a mind, and so the mind is a necessary consequence of us having a brain. In some respects it reminds me of the statement for Mulkuth in the pattern on the trestleboard, "10. The Kingdom of Spirit is embodied in my flesh." Which appears to say that physicality is a natural consequence of the primal expression of spirit. << I'm not suggesting a dualism between body and Mind. However, there is a hierarchy of causality. In other words, physicality is a natural consequence of a mental causality but that mental causality is not a consequence of physicality. This hierarchy of causality is important to the practicalities of Hermetic magic since the magician works with the higher causalities in order to affect the lower consequences. For example, when one wishes to directly perceive essential meaning, one doesn't consciously activate the right hemisphere of the brain; instead, one willfully adjusts one's mental state. >> Moreover, over my years of studying and practicing all sorts of esoteric things, some of which where quite questionable, I came to the conclusion long ago that it is probably best to exhaust all possible physiological explinations before moving into the realm of metaphysical explinations. << :) That's a good attitude! My best to you, :) Rawn Clark 19 May 2003 rawnclark@... rawn@... http://www.ABardonCompanion.com http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BardonPraxis http://E.webring.com/hub?ring=arionthebardonwe
