They are based upon the techniques learned in the Physical section of
Step Three, so yes, one must have mastered the relevant exercises before
working with the Appendix. For example, in order to impregnate a room
you must have first mastered the exercises on the accumulation of the
Vital Energy within the whole body (but not necessarily within the
individual organs).
