I agree. I don't see competition as way of proving myself better than others. I see it as an opportunity to test myself. Take basketball for example...you could be an excellent shooter when you've got the court to yourself and there are no distractions (a passive environment), but what happens when there is a defender there, doing his best to stop you scoring? (an active environment). Things you'd have been able to do before with minimal effort/focus now require complete concentration.
