Dear Ray, >> Last week, I spoke with one of the translators at Merkur Publishing and asked about Bardon's admonition regarding learning the theory before attempting the steps. I explained my intention to seriously study that material while going through the steps and his reply was that it would prolong my development; unnecessarily extend my progress by 20+ years. << Baloney! ;-) ;-) ;-) One should indeed seriously study the theory section and, as Bardon suggested, meditate extensively upon it, but even so, much of it will be incomprehensible until the moment that its reality is *experienced*. The theory *helps* us intellectually comprehend the point and basis of the exercises but it is the exercises themselves which bring *understanding*. >> To me, it seems that knowledge of the theory wouldn't become absolutely necessary until one has reached the third step, in which by then I would be well versed. I'm only on the first step and really enjoy how they've already positively affected me and can't seem to see the danger in going through the first couple steps while learning the theory. Any thoughts or suggestions? << I suggest that you proceed as you are and ignore what the folks at Merkur told you. I also suggest that you study the theory and meditate upon it while you're engaging in your exercises. In fact, this can be a great way to practice the techniques of mental discipline (see http://www.ABardonCompanion.com/Deep.html). My best to you, :) Rawn Clark 21 June 2004 rawnclark@... rawn@... http://www.ABardonCompanion.com http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BardonPraxis http://E.webring.com/hub?ring=arionthebardonwe
