Defining Hermeticism

Message 01874 of 3835

Dear Rawn:

You stated in your correspondance under "Defining Hermeticism" the following:

"In order to grow in the ability to effect external changes, the student MUST
learn the ability to control their own self. Self-control (i.e., the ability to
define one's own responses to external and internal stimuli, instead of those
stimuli being the determining factor) is an essential ingredient to attaining
an Elemental Equilibrium."

Could you expand on this?

My interpretation of this is that as Elemental Equilibrium takes place, the
individual's attitude and outlook toward the external changes and, he sees
things differently than he did when the elemental forces were unbalanced. An
example of this would be one who takes a seemingly negative circumstance and
changes it into a positive one and uses it as an opportunity to advance on the
evolutionary ladder. Another example would be one who loses his/her job, but
uses the circumstance as an opportunity to find a better one.

Perhaps one would see other people differently. It has been said that where one
is bound, none are free. And to realize that we are all tared with the same
brush or in the same boat, so to speak, we begin to see why people act the way
they do. I am beginning to experience a tolerance toward other people that
wasn't there before and the absence of criticism that previously occupied by
attention is no longer in control.

I am also aware that change that takes place at the subconscious level has a
decided change on the external, through the way we act, although we may not be
conscious of this.

It is my understanding that when we observe changes in others, we are actually
seeing the change in ourselves.

If you can add to this in any way, I would appreciate it.

Your article on Defining Hermeticism expanded my understanding of Hermeticism.
I have not seen it explained before in such a clear and practical way.

Thanks.

Robert
